Integral Eye Movement Therapy

One eye open

Integral Eye Movement Therapy is a breakthrough therapeutic approach that creates rapid transformation in emotional challenges and identity-related issues. At its core, IEMT addresses a fundamental question: "How did I learn to feel this way about this experience?"

Understanding Emotional Imprinting

When we encounter significant experiences, our minds create emotional blueprints that shape our future responses. This process, known as emotional imprinting, begins with storing an emotional reaction to an event. Over time, repeated exposure to these stored memories can transform from simple emotional responses ("This makes me feel unhappy") into deeply rooted identity statements ("I am an unhappy person").

From Emotion to Identity

The progression from emotional response to identity is subtle but profound. While emotions are temporary states, identities become integral parts of how we view ourselves. Consider the difference between:
- Experiencing motherhood ("I care for my children")
- Identifying as a mother ("I am a mother")

When emotions evolve into identity statements, they become constant companions in our daily experience, often feeling immutable and overwhelming.

 The IEMT Approach

IEMT harnesses the natural connection between eye movements and memory processing. When we recall memories, emotions, or thoughts, our eyes instinctively move in specific patterns, accessing different regions of our brain. IEMT works with these natural eye movements while addressing emotional and identity-based challenges, effectively disconnecting overwhelming emotions from stored memories.

Freedom & Breakthrough: Tailored 1:1 Coaching

Emma Toms in the water Loch Lomond

What do you want more of in life?

Better sleep: falling asleep without racing thoughts, waking refreshed.

More energy: a body that feels alive, not just “getting by.”

Natural confidence: trusting yourself and your choices.

Inner calm: meeting stress without being swept away.

Deeper connection: knowing who you are and what you need.

And what would you love less of?

Less stress and overwhelm.

Fewer emotional triggers that knock you off balance.

Less anxiety about your health and symptoms.

Less self-doubt or “I’m not enough” running the show.

These aren’t just wishes. They are real outcomes my clients experience when we work together.

Why This Work Creates Change

Most people who come to me have already tried so much — the diets, the supplements, the therapy, the protocols. Yet something still feels missing.

That’s because true transformation doesn’t happen by managing symptoms.

It happens when the nervous system feels safe enough to let go of old patterns.

In my coaching, we blend:

IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) → shifting the way trauma, memories, and beliefs are stored.

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) → rewiring the nervous system for calm, safety, and connection.

Somatic practices, Reiki, and guided meditation → integrating balance and resilience into daily life.

This isn’t about coping. It’s about rewiring. That’s why clients often say after a session, “I feel lighter, freer, and more myself again.”

Who is the SSP for?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a therapeutic intervention designed for individuals facing various challenges related to stress, anxiety, social engagement difficulties, and sensory processing issues. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges in alignment with the Polyvagal Theory, the SSP may help alleviate a wide range of symptoms:

Chronic health problems
Mental Health conditions
Substance use challenges
Attention and learning differences
Changes in appetite, energy, desires and interests
Difficulty sleeping
Feelings of loneliness and isolation
Difficulty connecting with others

What does the SSP involve?
The SSP is a listening programme, in which specially-filtered music progressively trains your auditory system to focus on sound frequencies resembling that of the human voice. By stimulating the facial and vagus nerves via the middle ear, it sends cues of safety to your nervous system, helping you to feel more settled, engaged and balanced.

Assessment
The SSP is not suitable for everyone. If your current circumstances are contributing to your dysregulation, it is best to wait until things settle down for you before starting the SSP. For some people it is advisable to use the SSP only alongside ongoing therapy.

You will therefore be asked to complete an assessment to screen for contraindications. The assessment also helps me to understand how your nervous system currently responds to challenges. Assuming the SSP is suitable for you, the assessment will inform the individualised programme I will set out for you.

SSP is more suited to working with your provider who understands how the nervous system works, and who is able to regulate themselves, is an important part of retraining your nervous system.

The role of the provider
As your SSP provider, I will guide you through your SSP journey through a combination of in-person or online video sessions and online contact. I will make sure you are fully prepared before you start listening to the music, and will recommend a personalised listening plan for you. I will provide psychoeducation and answer any questions you may have. During the listening, I will monitor your progress and make sure you are progressing through the programme at a pace which is right for your individual nervous system.

The role of the listener
During a listening session, you will listen to the music, whilst engaging in light activity such as breathing exercises, stretches or drawing. It is important you let me know of any feelings or sensations that arise, whether emotional or physical, so that your listening plan can be adjusted to suit the needs of your individual nervous system as they evolve over time.

Less is more when it comes to the SSP, so listen to the "whispers" of your nervous system before they become "shouts"! You are listening to and honouring your nervous system's needs, not simply listening to the music
