It’s Not Just Your Mindset That Needs Changing

A woman walking into a grey mountain scape

We’re told to shift our mindset.

To think positive.

To repeat mantras.

To change our thoughts, and our lives will follow.

And while there’s truth in that—while thoughts do shape our reality—this advice, on its own, barely scratches the surface.

Because mindset doesn’t live in the mind alone.

It’s braided into the body.

It’s wrapped around the nervous system.

It’s held in memories we barely know are still running the show.

You can’t out-think a threat response.

You can’t journal your way out of chronic fear.

You can’t mindset your way out of a body that doesn’t feel safe.

And that’s where so many get stuck.

They’re doing all the right things.

Reading the books. Listening to the podcasts. Practicing gratitude. Speaking affirmations.

But inside? They're still braced.

Still anxious.

Still carrying beliefs they never consciously chose.

"I’m not good enough."

"I always mess things up."

"I have to do everything on my own."

"I can’t rest or I’ll fall apart."

These aren’t just mindset problems.

They’re subconscious imprints—old programmes shaped by trauma, repetition, or identity roles we slipped into before we even knew they had names.

This is where deeper change begins.

Not by forcing a new thought—

but by unhooking the old one from the nervous system.

One of the tools I use for this is IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy). It doesn’t just work on a cognitive level. It gently rewires emotional responses at the source, shifting how the body feels about a memory, a belief, or even a label like “anxious” or “lazy” that’s been silently running the show.

When you change the emotional imprint beneath a belief, mindset becomes effortless. You don’t have to push. You don’t have to convince yourself you’re safe—you feel it.

And then there’s the rewiring. The reclaiming.

That’s where journaling, deep rest and building routines come in.

It allows the subconscious to let go, to receive something different and reorient around a truth that’s already waiting beneath the fear:

That you are whole.

That you are enough.

That you don’t have to keep living in protection and defence.

This is the work I live and breathe—not because it’s trendy, but because it’s what brought me home to myself after years of chronic illness, burnout, and dysregulation. Mindset and affirmations helped—but it was only the door. I had to step all the way in.

If you’re ready to go deeper than the surface

If mindset work has taken you part of the way, but not all the way—

If your body is asking for something more—

This is your invitation.

Through 1:1 work in my Breakthrough and Freedom coaching programmes, and in my September group journey Rebalance & Rebuild, we explore the nervous system, subconscious belief, identity patterns, and the tender repair that true transformation requires.

You don’t have to keep managing your mindset.

You can change from the root.

Let’s begin there.
